There were a lot of customers and partners that had some good questions and excellent ideas. The session went well and John had the opportunity to network with talented people during the event.

At the beginning of 2010, John Andersen decided to say goodbye to friends and colleagues at Novell in order to take his employment to a young company, Service-now.com. John spent nearly 13 years at the networking giant and had participated in a variety of technologies. Some of his most memorable Novell projects include NDS for NT, Novell Portal Services, Novell Workspace, Novell ZENworks, and Platespin Orchestrate.

Change Management

John recently received management training on the topic of “Change Management”. The course was offered through the Harvard Business Review. Some of the topics that John brushed up on include the dimensions of change, implementing change, and communicating change.

John learned that successful managers of change have the following attributes: They are accepted by others as trustworthy and competent; they have a big-picture perspective – understanding the business impacts and long term benefit; their vision for change is compelling and clear; they can articulate the the change is and why it is necessary; they can see opportunities and diagnose problems from their audience’s perspective.

Data Center Responsibilities

John recently was assigned to manage a group of testing resources in Novell’s Data Center family of products that are developed in Provo. John’s responsibilities still include the ZENworks product family, and the Endpoint Security product, but will also include a couple of products under the PlateSpin name as well.

This version of FamilySearch is the cutting edge of family history tools engineered by the LDS Church. John learned about the technologies they are pioneering and given an architectural tour of the direction the church hopes to take in their FamilySearch initiative.
